SUMMARY:Artist Opening Reception - Roberta Condon & John McGee
DESCRIPTION:THE HEARTLAND\n\nPaintings by John McGee\n\nBaskets by Roberta Condon\n\n \n\nROBERTA CONDON\n\nWhen I engage in fiber arts I am creating something\, but I'm also participating in historic traditions thousands of years old. Pine needle and grass coiling into baskets has been in existence since the time of man. My extensive study with the Gullah Geechee in the barrier islands off the Georgia Coast\, and a master coiler North in the barrier islands of Virginia imbue the work with a deep tradition yet the forms move outside tradition to embrace a new definition of basketry and vessels.\n\n \n\nJOHN MCGEE\n\nI have never been an artist with a penchant for flowery narrative. I prefer to do my art and let the viewer take from it whatever he or she finds. That way the work is open to personal\, and therefore\, unlimited interpretation. But I do hope my artwork fills the viewer's senses and imagination with the sights and sounds of the Midwest\, from flowing rivers to fields being tended. Portrayals of the changing seasons in my pieces will remind you of the bounty and beauty that is the Midwest. \n\n \n\nOpening Reception: Friday\, January 3 from 4 to 6pm Join us for refreshments and a chance to meet the artist! Show runs thru January 25\, 2020.
