Madison College to Offer Concealed Carry Handgun Safety Course at Portage Campus
Wisconsin’s new concealed carry law goes into effect on November 2, 2011. In order to apply for a permit to carry a concealed weapon, individuals must complete special training and pass a background check.
Madison College-Portage offers a four-hour class that meets the training requirements of the concealed carry law titled “Concealed Carry and Handgun Fundamentals Safety Course”. This class will be offered twice at the Portage campus, 330 West Collins Street, on Saturday, November 5th and again on Saturday, November 12th. The class runs from 8:00 am to noon and tuition is $69.
The course will cover:
--Basic knowledge of firearm safety
--Weapon handling and malfunction troubleshooting
--Legal responsibilities of firearm ownership and use
--Personal decision making regarding possessing and using a firearm
Students must be 21 years of age and legally eligible to possess a firearm in the State of Wisconsin.
Materials will be provided; please bring note-taking materials. Training weapons will be provided so no personal firearms or ammunition should be brought to class per Madison College policy. Students should arrive 20 minutes early for check-in. The class starts on time and late arrivals will not be allowed in due to a mandatory safety briefing and check-in at the beginning of each class.

If classes fill to capacity, a wait list will be created and future course sections may be scheduled.
This course does not grant a concealed carry permit. The Wisconsin Department of Justice accepts the applications and registers those eligible for a concealed carry permit.
