The Portage Area Community Theatre will bring to life a foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivorous plant in their upcoming production of Little Shop of Horrors, book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, music by Alan Menken and directed by Dr. Tom McEvilly. Performances will be held at the Portage Center for the Arts - 301 E. Cook St - Portage Meek flower shop assistant Seymour pines for co-worker Audrey. During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant, which he names Audrey II and he thinks he's hit the jackpot. But there is a problem, the plant has an unusual craving for blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. After Seymour feeds Audrey's boyfriend, Orin, to the plant after Orin's accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant. It's a classic 'deal with the devil' story, with some dark humor.
